Explore Northumberland
Along the coast and within easy distance of Newton-by-the-Sea are the majestic castles of Bamburgh and Lindisfarne on Holy Island, as well as the dramatic ruins of Dunstanburgh.
There are beautiful fishing villages nearby such as Craster, with the best local crab and kippers, and the coastal towns of Alnmouth and Seahouses.
Inland is the fortified medieval town of Alnwick with its splendid castle and internationally renowned gardens and treehouse, created by the inspiration of the Duchess of Northumberland.
Other local highlights to visit are Howick Hall, Cragside, Ford and Etal castles
Golf courses abound in Embleton, Bamburgh, Foxton, Alnmouth and Alnwick.

Further south in Northumberland you can visit Hadrian's Wall and see Vindolanda, Housesteads and Chesters Roman sites.
You can also travel to Newcastle and shop at the Gateshead Metro Centre, one of the largest shopping complexes in Europe.
In County Durham, the land of Prince Bishops, you can see Durham Cathedral and Beamish Museum.
The Scottish Borders are half an hours drive north and Edinburgh is also within easy reach.
